Description

A critically acclaimed film that won a total of eight 1970 Academy Awards (Including Best Picture), Patton is a riveting portrait of one of the 20th century's greatest military geniuses. One of it's Oscars went to George Patton, the only Allied general truly feared by the Nazis. Charismatic and Flamboyant, Patton designed his own uniforms, sported ivory-handled six-shooters, and believed he was a warrior in past lives. He outmanuevered Rommel in Africa, and after D-Day led his troops in an unstoppable campaign across Europe. But he was rebellious as well insight and poignancy, his own volatile personailty was one enemy he could never defeat.

5One of America's greatest military leaders  Aug 13, 2010
As a retired army officer and an adjunct history professor I thought it was important to review what I consider the best war movies depicting the challenges of leadership and the command of men.

The biopic "Patton" (George C. Scott), is one of the best movies depicting the remarkable and flawed career of one of America's greatest military leaders; General George S. Patton, famous tank corps commander of World War II.. The movie examines this legendary leader's career in North Africa and progresses through the invasion of Germany and the fall of the Third Reich. His reputation for exacting standards and constant harsh training techniques, including slapping soldiers who he thought were malingerers did not ingratiate him with his men and made him politically unpopular with the "brass." However, it was those very traits that also made him a great leader that got more fight out of his men than any other commander in Europe! The movie ably shows how Patton's battlefield genius garners him fear and respect from the Germans. When the movie shows how he is ridiculed by other generals for volunteering his corps to disengage from a pitch battle, turn it 90 degrees and in less then 72 hours move it 100 miles to relieve the "Battling Bastards of Bastogne" (101st Airborne Div.) it highlights all that was great in Patton as a military leader! That is why you should see this Oscar winning movie!

5Rommel you magnificent B*astard! I read your Book!  Jun 27, 2010
Prob one of the Best, Finest, Outstanding movies of WW2 ever made.
The film is brilliant, great directing, great acting, great script!
I enjoy the little tidbits of humor that is thrown in..like when Patton walks around the corner and kicks the Prvt in the butt....clasic! Or when the Chaplin asks Gen Patton if he ever finds time to read his Bible, Pattons answer is terrific.
Get the DVD, sure you seen it a million times but it's a must own film.
Classic one liners from the movie:
"What about the Americans? Don't they need a Hero too?"
"Well they have their schedule and I have mine"
"Ask them if they want us to give it back"
"Lodas, Lodas"
"Today I thought I'd stand up here so that you can see if I'm as big a son of a Bitch as some of you think I am"
"If you defeated Rommels plan, you defeated Rommel"

5Patton.  Jun 21, 2010
Beautiful,Patriotic and well done. George C. Scott did A Great Service. Patton should be viewed by my generation, A Great Movie about a Great General,A Great Man. Most War Movies focus toO much on silly false pretenses and the liberal anti-war message instead of focusing on what is real and sometimes inevitable. Patton is One of If not THE BEST War Movie in my Opinion I have seen.HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
